Description:
Diablito puts you in the driver’s seat for a spur of the moment, nail biting year-long road trip across Mexico.

More than a travel odyssey, you’ll spend months in a hidden ghost town, almost lose it all, find love and melt down on the beach, experience unprecedented kindness and meet a shaman.

Ride along with the trials and tribulations of two young friends engulfed in the unknown—intentionally wasting time on a haphazard hunt for high adventure and a meaningful existence.

A great weekend read with a heavy dose of cultural significance, this novelette clocks in at around 14,000 words but you’ll definitely get some mileage out of Diablito. Hopefully it’ll be shared and inspire you to take your own trip—an escape—and discover more of life’s simple pleasures.

This is a story that must be told and the first of three parts.

MS Word Formatting Tips for Kindle Direct Publishing & Mobipocket Creator

Eliminate Kindle Formatting Headaches
I just went through this process and wanted to share my experience to prevent a few headaches. Everything was fairly straightforward, all it took was frantically Googling every tutorial and Kindle formatting article under the sun. I have linked to the resources that I used below as well.

A lot of time was wasted tinkering with precise indentation, line-height, paragraph settings and custom styles but once you have your process down and a template it is easily repeated. With a few modifications you can use the same Word document to publish to Smashwords.

It helps to have a basic understanding of HTML and an HTML editor to clean up the T.O.C. anchors and centering. Many Kindle eBooks have formatting mistakes but with a little HTML knowledge you can easily clean up any visual errors. Kindle is very particular about the HTML code behind the scenes of the Word document and 99% of your errors will be found in this code.

My main headache was seeing the old Kindle file and not my most recent corrections, so be sure you delete the old book title in the Kindle viewer as explained further in the last steps. Read the rest of this entry »

My First Experience with Ascension – Meditation for the Rest of Us

Ascension Eye
We rode our mountain bikes every day around Green Lake Park in Seattle.

I was on the hunt for new experiences and trying to make some changes in life. One day while browsing Craig’s List I run across an ad:

WANTED: Electrician wanted for some basic electrical work in trade for a 3-day meditation retreat. Learn to meditate with us on our beautiful grounds in Tacoma, Washington.

I pick up the phone and give them a call. A nice woman answers and we strike a deal. The following day I take the short bus ride to Tacoma and they pick me up in town. Read the rest of this entry »

We were invincible.

I lived in a tiny bedroom in an upstairs duplex apartment on 51st and Airport in Austin. Sitting at a roll top desk I was behind on rent and trying to make money with t-shirt designs—typical. We parked in the front yard and collected concert flyers.

My roommate was a long-haired California transplant who spent his nights talking to his plants on Rohypnols, mostly hanging ferns. On some days he rode his vintage bicycle to work at the Texas School for the Deaf with the trademarked slackers and musicians and I had no purpose. Read the rest of this entry »

Queen Elizabeth Spotted Dedicating a Museum in Manchester, England

image

Queen Elizabeth was right across the street from me when she came out from dedicating a museum. She got into her purple Bentley with a bouquet of flowers, looked right at me, smiled and sped away. I had only been in Manchester for about half an hour for the first time so this was pretty exciting!
